Strapped In

**APRIL’S SHOW IS POSTPONED**

$8 cover | 21+ | 10pm-2am | show at midnight

You showed up for us at our January resurrection in a BIG way, so this thing is quarterly now, folks! If you were there, YOU DID THAT! If you weren’t, LET’S DO THIS!

Strapped In is a queer party for the rest of us.

The world is a divisive, hard place to live right now — and queer spaces aren’t immune. Strapped In is about creating a culture of welcome through queer nightlife — consider it a love letter, written by and for all who show up.

(More about what Strapped In stands for at the end of this post!)

Dancing all night, queer af drag show at midnight!

Throw on whatever makes you feel happy, sexy, and free (Your thigh highs and jockstrap….your harness and lace…your t-shirt and jeans… you decide!) and meet us at Funhouse Lounge!

Host: Sugarpill

Performances from:
– Nightmare Ada
Jaxin Ryan
– Mona Chrome

Gogos:
– Viper

– Carly

Design: Zepheur

Photography: Austin Mckee

** Strapped In strives to be a body-positive, sex-positive, all-gender space working to minimize oppressive forces of racism, misogyny, transphobia, and the like. We need your help with that! Please keep yourself and others accountable. Consent is mandatory—ask before touching, and only yes means yes. Reach out to a member of the Funhouse Lounge staff or someone involved in the event if you need help or feel unsafe!

Venue is ADA Accessible, though it may be difficult to navigate hallways/doorways with some mobility devices. Please reach out to Funhouse Lounge first with specific questions (they know the venue best!), but don’t hesitate to contact Sugarpill!

STRAPPED IN IS…

QUEER
All of us who produce, perform in, DJ, and gogo at Strapped In are queer as fuck. Most of us are trans. We’re creating the world we want to live in.

KIND
The world is a hard place. The queer community isn’t immune to that, but it shouldn’t be that way. It’s difficult enough for people like us, so don’t treat each other like shit. We welcome each other, and together we respect the night.

SEXY
We say it often, and we mean it — kindness is sexy. Queer sexuality shouldn’t be taboo. Several folks have told us that Strapped In is one of the queerest nights in town, and the first public event they felt comfortable wearing a jockstrap to. Our bodies — all of them — are beautiful. Our love — all of it — is beautiful. We — all of us — are beautiful.

IN PROGRESS
This night exists because there’s something missing from queer nightlife. We don’t claim to know exactly what that is. We provide easy opportunities for feedback and are ready to grow with you.

Not Another Christmas Letter

NOT ANOTHER CHRISTMAS LETTER! is an original musical comedy unfolding in a series of comic and poignant vignettes with four actors bringing 46 characters to life celebrating everything that drives us crazy about Christmas . . . and why we love it anyway.

(Funhouse Lounge show dates:  December 8 & 15 @ 2:00pm)

Think of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change . . . for the holidays. From receiving that first obnoxious Christmas letter to taking the family picture, from dealing with in-laws, to facing unassembled gifts on Christmas Eve, Not Another Christmas Letter: The Musical! shows why sometimes we want to sing “Wreck the halls!” and then why we’re wistful when Christmas is over.

“It is absolutely true that CHRISTMAS LETTERS took our new theatre company to a new level. With its highly witty, engaging script and score, the show is a non-stop journey full of laughter and touching moments — the best of both worlds! We heard from several members of our sold-out house who said they couldn’t wait to see it again. It’s clear that audiences crave new classics to add to their favorite holiday shows…it’s just the ticket!”– Angela Shultz & Melissa Harlow Stomping Ground Theatre Co New York

Not Another Christmas Letter: The Musical Features:

Bronwyn Baz

Chris Bartell

Carissa Zubricky

The show includes a 15 minute intermission and concessions will be available for purchase.

Improv Auditions!

Greetings, Portland Improvisers!
Funhouse Lounge is holding auditions for its upcoming show,USS Improvise, the Next Generation; the Musical, as well as looking for players to join our Funhouse troupe at large.
We will be having group auditions on Sunday, December 9th, 11am- 1pm.  Auditioners will stay for the whole time; the session will be structured like a class, so there’ll be plenty of chances to warm up with everyone and play. The ensemble rehearses weekly on Wednesday nights.
We run a full season alternating improvised plays and scripted plays, infused with irreverent pop culture and nostalgia (with regular monthly shortform shows sprinkled in), and we’d love more folks to join us.
Email  andy@funhouselounge.com to sign up.
If you are an experienced improviser, and cannot attend the audition, please feel free to e-mail me anyway, and we can talk about it.
Seeking ages 18+

John Carpenter’s “The Thing”–a stage parody

From the producer/director of last year’s hit, “Sweep the Leg” (Karate Kid: The Musical) comes a comedic stage adaptation of John Carpenter’s beloved horror/sci-fi classic “The Thing.”

When a group of scientists in Antarctica discovers a long-buried spaceship in the ice, they unearth a dangerous creature that threatens to destroy them, and potentially us all.

In this loving stage parody, we set out to, in equal parts, pay homage and satirize this iconic film. A cast of some of Portland’s best comedic character actors takes aim at the roles made famous by Keith David, Kurt Russell and Wilfred Brimley.

The Funhouse Lounge, known for its send-ups of classic 80s films undergoes a transformation of its own to create the perfect venue to stage the isolated Antarctic outpost and its dark, cavernous tunnels and rooms.

For die-hard “The Thing” fans and newcomers alike, John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” A Stage Parody reminds us all that “Man is the Warmest Place to Hide.”

Thursdays-Saturdays, November 1-17. All shows at 7:00 pm, doors at 6:30

Tickets are $18 online, $25 at the door. Reserved seating available online.

Titled “STAGE FRIGHT 2: THE SHRIEKQUEL,” the BROADWAY BEARS will perform villain and horror-themed songs from the musical realm of stage and screen, from comedy to drama to dangerous, in their trademark entertaining way… complete with furry faces! And this time, they’ve got some special friends from Portland’s performing elite to get down with!

The BROADWAY BEARS, “Portland’s Furriest Singers,” are Andy Mangels, Darin MacLeod, Donnie Vecchione, and M. Stephen Bradley. For this special concert, special guests from Portland’s performing elite include burlesque queen Zora Phoenix, jazz diva Karen Maria Capo, musical theater superstar Deanna Maio, and bearded balladeers Bobby Jackson and Michael Chavez!

With all live singing in solos, duet, trio, and group numbers, the “STAGE FRIGHT 2: THE SHRIEKQUEL” concert will be a spooky performance that will leave you thrilled and chilled, and laughing and screaming. The two acts feature over 20 songs and medleys from stage productions and films such as Little Shop Of Horrors, The Addams Family, Les Miserables, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, Hocus Pocus, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sweeney Todd, Wonderland, Hairspray, The Phantom Of The Opera, The Rocky Horror Show, Hamilton, Into The Woods, The Wiz, Heathers, Oliver!, Reefer Madness, Wicked, Disneyland, and many more!

The over-21 concert will be at Funhouse Lounge, on October 28, 2018, with doors at 6:30pm, show from 7-9pm. Tickets are $10 in advance from brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door ($10 for seniors or students), with special reserved booth tickets also available. The first STAGE FRIGHT concert was in 2014, and this “Shriekquel” promises to surpass the recent sold out standing-room-only concert that the Broadway Bears performed at the Funhouse.

The members of the BROADWAY BEARS have decades of stage experience encompassing theatrical, choral, opera, television, film, and teaching arenas. BROADWAY BEARS was co-founded in mid-2011 by Andy Mangels, and the group has performed charitable concerts and at local events in 2012-2018, including a popular and bravura opening concert at the 20th anniversary of Peacock in the Park at Washington Park Amphitheatre.
